Spatial Ethnography Lab is an interdisciplinary not-for-profit research and design group with expertise in anthropology, landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning and data visualization. Our members are drawn from different academic settings around the world. We seek to bring unbiased, analytic knowledge developed in research institutions to address problems in the field. We frame original research problems by relating emergent and historical social patterns. Our approach to design is rooted in thorough and systematic long-term research in different communities, based on identifying, leveraging and seeding communities around shared risks, resources and claims rather than developing and placing solutions that inevitably prove to be unsustainable. We aim to develop the capacity to communicate between individual actors and communities, intermediary organizations and state institutions based on deep ethnographic knowledge of local context and the visualization of links between relevant contexts.
